When I made my first move on exploring what London Design Week had to offer on its first day of opening, what I saw definitely caught my eye. I decided to wander into Fumi Gallery first as I've never been before and it always looks so decadent from the outside. What caught my eye straight away was this very intriguing looking lamp, after a few minutes of staring at this masterpiece I managed to peel my eyes away to look at the little name tag on the wall behind, Pieke Bergmans.

A little history on Pieke Bergmans: She is a Dutch designer who has shown throughout the world having created a whole new way of thinking towards glass blowing. From adapting crystal glass blowing in her previous project ‘Crystal Virus' in which she cooperated with Royal Leerdam Crystal (the designing and glassblowing department of Dutch glassware producing factory, Glasfabriek Leerdam) she moved on to creating her limited edition crystal lamps. Each lamp has been hand-made and then equipped with LEDS, so they are safe in any environment, which she shows throughout her design and placement of these droopy sculptures. Melting into tables or hanging over filing cabinets intended to reflect their exhaustion, Bergman’s describes her creation as "a light bulb that has gone way out of line. Infected by the dreaded Design Virus, these bulbs have taken on all kinds of forms and sizes you wouldn't expect from such well behaved and reliable little products." Coming across through her work as a very innovative and forward thinking designer, she brings with her much intrigue and curiosity.

Keep an eye out for this enchanting designer as in her next project ‘The Melted Collection' she will be collaborating with Peter van der Jagt. Her limited edition ‘The Light Bulbs' is a continuing show at Fumi Gallery until November 18th so I definitely suggest making a visit.
