The Art Collective Rising South East
The past year has seen the rise of the art collective in South East London. A result, in the most part, due to the areas many art students and graduates found, most noticeable, in the neighborhoods of New Cross, Peckham and Camberwell initially because of the cheap living costs but increasingly because of the potential to form a new and exciting artistic hub for London.
This film provides an introduction to the endeavors of three emerging collectives- each with its own, distinct identity but each intrinsically linked through common goals. Key members of the groups discuss why they have chosen to work collectively, the benefits and disadvantages of such endeavors and their own views on the South East areas of London.
LuckyPDF- a Peckham based organization with an aim to promote and support new artists and creative talent within the area through finding innovative models for producing and exhibiting work. Made up of graduates from Chelsea, Goldsmiths and Camberwell Colleges.
Off Modern- a collective of artists, writers, promoters and curators who aim to hold events that provide young artists with an easily accessible platform to exhibit their work outside of the gallery system and thus expose their work to a new audience. Made up of students and recent graduates from Goldsmiths and Camberwell Colleges.
The Sunday Painter- an artist led gallery with a view to promote painting as a traditional art form in clean cut and simple modernist settings. Made up of graduates from Camberwell and Chelsea Colleges.
