The Artist's Yearbook 2010/2011

(Thames & Hudson Publishing)

I'm quite excited about being able to use this book this year for some fantastic project. If you're not entirely in the know about every awesome place in London or the UK to frame work, get materials, find art bookshops, or read about prizes, you could just get an education. Laid out like a bible for any god-fearing art student, it seems like it has got all the answers. When possible it gives a comprehensive list of every possible trade and institution or society as well as providing an address and short blurb. What's especially nice is that it also lists all the virtual counterparts like online art networks and communities, galleries, and references. Plus, this year as an added bonus the author has added Competitions and prizes section. I can also imagine that it would be useful for job hunting, if you're interested in interning, apprenticeships, or what have you. But, I'll let you know once I start using it if it's any good. The one thing I find particularly annoying about this book is that rather than have everything listed by location, it is listed alphabetically by title so you'll have to leaf through a few pages before finding anything based in London. Oh, and one more thing, I'm especially proud that Goldsmiths is listed on page 311 under Further, higher and adult education and on page 359 under Art Libraries.
