Recently having won the 'Beat the Frog' Final at Manchester Comedy Festival, as well as being a finalist in a host of other competitions, Tom Goodliffe is hot property. Like a baked potato, just out of whatever device you have used to cook it in. Here he is, answering some questions i asked him...

Hello.
How are you today?

Yeah, pretty good thanks, despite the weather. It's like the first of November rocked up and went "That's how it's done October. Kiss my drizzly wang."

How long have you been performing comedy?

My first gig was June 2006, but I didn't really do much for a year after that, thanks to distractions of a Football Manager nature. My laptop broke in September 2007 and I've been gigging regularly ever since.

How would you describe your act?

An awkward lanky accountant gets overly excited about people actually listening to him speak and spoils it with maths-hiphop fusion. Plus jokes.

Who are your comedy influences?

I adore the work of Demetri Martin and Daniel Kitson, whose past Edinburgh shows made me realise what comedy could be and how I could embrace and share parts of my personality for laughter-inducing purposes.

What's been your best comedy moment?

Winning the annual new act competition at Manchester's Frog & Bucket club was pretty special. It's a great club and usually gets around 300+ people in. The laughs hit you like a massive wave. The first time I played it, I got an encore, which was a genuinely wonderful experience.

What's been your worst comedy moment?

There's been a few let-downs in new act competitions, such as when an MC called last orders and then introduced me as the majority of the audience left to go to the bar! The most embarrassing moment was in my first year of gigging. I had a bad gig in a competition heat but stuck around to watch the rest of the show. At the end the MC was calling out the names of the acts who'd qualified for the next round. He garbled one name into the mic, none of the comedians moved, and it sounded a bit like my name so I went up! It was only when I got up there that I saw the comedian who ACTUALLY qualified, shuffling towards the stage from where he'd been sat in the crowd. Meanwhile I was stuck on stage looking back at an audience who not only didn't vote for me, but now thought I was a massive idiot.
