Introducing... Sanderson Jones
Sanderson Jones, who recently performed at Goldsmiths' Funny Folk Comedy Club, is one of the fastest rising new acts on the comedy circuit. He took his debut solo-show up to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, 'Another Heartbreaking but Ultimatley Life-Affirming Show About Death', which even featured an after-show interactive game, a fantastically original idea of how to extend the Fringe show experience. I caught up with him face(book) to face(book) to ask him a few questions...
How are you today?
Washed and dressed earlier than normal. I'm heading up to Manchester for a gig today, so have to get some stuff done.
How long have you been performing comedy?
Since October 2007. Should have started earlier: if any of you are thinking of doing it, then just start.
How would you describe your act?
Fuck, I'm rubbish at this part. There are jokes, lots of death, quite a lot of the internet. You're the journalist, you tell me.
Who are your comedy influences?
Stewart Lee was a big influence, but before that I was a devoted Ali G and Borat fan. Now, I'm loving Hans von Teuwen. I'm trying to get less linear, scarier and a little more unhinged.
What's been your best comedy moment?
Being taken away by the police whilst leading a chorus line of 16 dancing robots. 8 of them were Ravebots, 8 were pirate robots. I was Pieces Of Hate. Tina Turner's 'Simply the Best' had started when the coppers took me to one side. The robot brass band (the Brassbots) played on. All this took place in front of about 250 people in a flash sketch style.
What's been your worst comedy moment?
Oooh, I did my first show in Edinburgh this year. Somehow, even though I'd practised it lots, I messed up a few shows in Edinburgh. My fourth show in was a universe of pain. Horrible.
